Valentines Day Travel: Park City

ParkCity2Hey guys, it’s never too late to book and plan your Valentine’s Day Travel to Park City, Utah. Park City is a great destination that offers a variety of romance and activity for the couple that wants the perfect combination of both. Park City is closer then you think. Just a 1 ½ hour flight from Southern California puts you in a perfect winter resort setting. TravelingDad set out to experience Park City and show you some of the many things you can do with your partner; so park your heart in Park City this Valentine’s Day!

Something for everybody…

Park City Mountain Resort offers first class skiing and snowboarding for all skill levels. With over 3300 acres of varied ski and snowboard terrain, the mountain has plenty of room to ski. As a skier, one of the subtle but important luxuries I experienced was having my skis ’parked’ in the overnight valet service. When you are done for the day, you just drop your skis off at the bottom of the hill and go about your business, worry free. I didn’t have to experience that awkward and often dangerous walk back to my car carrying skis over my shoulder. The overnight valet service is offered to both skiers and snowboarders for a $5 a night fee and free if you rent your equipment from Park City Mountain Resort.

Outdoor Coaster Ride, Zip Line, and Tubing?

At the base of the mountain lies the Alpine Coaster and the Flying Eagle Zip Line. Both of these rides are full of adrenaline and perfect for both adults and children. The coaster ride takes you through a 15-minute twisting track along the mountain side. One or two people can ride the toboggan and I recommend riding together to get the maximum speed. The zip line is a two-seater, modified ski lift that zips above the ski slopes and rushes you down with great views of the resort.

Gorgoza Tubing Park is just 10-minutes outside of the resort and offers day time and night time tubing. During the day, there are a lot of family friendly activities that cater to children, but the night belongs to adults who have a need for speed. All equipment is provided, but make sure you are dressed for the cold with gloves and winter clothing. One pleasant surprise I found was that you don’t have to walk up the hill lugging your tube with you. Gorgoza Park offers a ‘lift-served’ tubing which means you can sit down on your tub and get pulled up to the top and choose to ride down one of six tracks of pure downhill speed.

Main Street, Park City

Downtown Park City has a Main Street full of shops and restaurants. Traveling Dad recommends visits to a boutique called The Crosby Collection, (CrosbyCollection.com) and the High West Distillery & Saloon restaurant. The Crosby has a unique, local collection of jewelry and antique collectibles. Whether you are looking for jewelry or just that special gift that lets someone in your life know that you care, the Crosby Collection has it.

The High West, (HighWest.com) is the first distillery in Utah since 1870. The restaurant and distillery sits on the property of a former auto garage, and the place where miners would get their horses horseshoed back in the day. The owner’s preserved the original façade and it still appears to be a place where you would find the ‘Wild West’ alive and well at the bar. On-site tours are available to visitors and the restaurant serves small plates of nouveau Western fare. I recommend the French Onion Soup and a glass of the Bourye, (Bourbon / Rye combination) to sip with your meal.

Fine Dining, The Viking Yurt

For a unique and special occasion, there is the Viking Yurt Dinner Experience. Enjoy a 6-course meal on the top of the Park City Mountain Resort in a specially designed dinner hut, called a Viking Yurt. Be part of a special group for dinner as you meet at the base of the mountain and have a snow cat tow you and several guests on a sleigh to the mountain top elevation of 8,000 feet. Enjoy the night time views of Park City and dress warm. Your meal is met with a warm greeting by the Chef who goes out of his way to please his guests in this intimate setting. Book your reservations early because seating is limited. (VikingYurt.com)

Park Your Heart in Park City…

Like all trips, this visit to Park city seemed to go a lot faster than I wanted. Whether you want to wind down or wind up, Park City has a variety of activities, fun, and romance for your Valentine's Day Travel. Just remember, every day is Valentine’s Day when you are in love!
